Step Two
Do Not Call and Other Lists?
In Step One, you started monitoring your credit reports. In 90 days, you will get your next credit report and every 90 days there after. Keep up the good work in protecting your identity.
Step two is identity theft risk reduction strategies. You should also consider placing your phone number on the “Do Not Call” list through the National Do Not Call Registry: 1-888-382-1222 You will have to renew every 5 years. Each state has a do not call registry which you can find yours by clicking here
You may also reduce your risk of having your identity stolen by opting out of unsolicited “pre-approved” credit offerings by calling 888-5-OPTOUT or go to www.optoutprescreen.com.
This will not remove your name from credit card solicitations from anyone you already do business with such as your bank, credit union or any existing companies you hold credit cards. You must contact each company’s customer service number and request your desire to not receive unsolicited applications through the mail.
